Tilapia – the Jalebi Fish
The tilapia fish is one of the most favorite fish breed, be it to those who eat it or those who sell it. In a place where I live (Mysore and Bangalore) the tilapia is served both in big and small restaurants. I have even seen street vendors in Mysore selling the tilapia fry which consumers say is very tasty and affordable too.
The tilapia fish is popularly known as the Jalebi Fish in Karnataka. I am not sure if the fish has the same name elsewhere. I guess that tilapia is known as Jalebi Fish because of its tenderness and taste when cooked. It is easily available too, thanks to abundant farm breeding of tilapia.
